Student Learning Communities provide a space and structure for students to align around a shared goal. Effective communities are both aspirational and practical. They connect individuals that are eager to learn and work across boundaries, all the while holding members accountable to a common agenda, expectations, and outcomes. These communities enable participants to share results and learn from each other, thereby improving their ability to achieve rapid yet significant progress.
Connect People - In our SLC, we work in teams that change membership every 4 1/2 weeks (called terms) using a systematic method.
Distribute Leadership - Every student has a prescribed duty to fulfill for their respective teams that are clearly depicted and communicated. Set Goals - Teams work together to create individual and group learning goals based upon their collected data. Enable Shared Learning - Students, working with partners and in small group (teams,) practice mathematical topics and coach each other to reach maximum academic potential. Specific cooperative and academic learning structures will be utilized within our community. Measure Collective Progress - Teams will reflect individually and as a group upon previously set goals and identify their successes and areas of needed improvement on a weekly basis. Accelerate Progress - By using the processes of a student learning community, members will facilitate fast cycle learning and be able to measure results identifying learning strategies that are best suited for individual stakeholders. |
